Forrest Hills Visitor Centre

The brief for this project was to provide a teaching and resource centre for environmental study groups and to reflect this use by employing ecologically sound materials within an organic structure suitable for self build.

Construction materials included Corsican Pine tree poles grown , felled and seasoned on site; straw bale and site dug cobble walls finished with site dug clay plaster; natural wool roof insulation; local Cumbrian slate and Herdwick wool carpets.

Many of the details were artistically produced by the client including ventilator grilles from bundles of reeds and a bespoke water wheel as a centre piece.
